Funerals
We are so sorry for your loss, and we will do all that we can to help you through the process of planning and preparing for a funeral or memorial service. We will ensure that the service is as personal and beautiful as possible and will offer you peace of mind, comfort, and support during a very difficult day.
We can provide a Christian funeral service for any member of the parish regardless of whether they attended a church or not. A funeral service can take place in the church or at the crematorium or cemetery. We will talk through your wishes and all the various options.
The loss of a loved one is a very emotional, life changing experience and we will do our very best to help you through the process of preparation for whatever type of funeral you choose.
Please contact us and a member our team will be in touch with you at the earliest opportunity.
Online funeral guide
The Church of England has written an online funeral guide and we hope it will answer many of your questions about a funeral service and how a minister can support you every step of the way.
Visiting the church and churchyard
If you are not familiar with St James’ Church and Churchyard you may like to pay a quiet visit to the church which is open for visiting and private prayer on weekday mornings from 10am to noon. Please contact us if you would like us to pray for you or your family in confidence.
Beyond the funeral - a time to grieve
There is no right or wrong way to grieve but as a church we realise how important it can be for a family to know they have someone who can listen whenever it’s needed. Grief can be a long journey as well as a lonely one. We have a dedicated bereavement team at PFC who are here to help you at any time. We hold regular, informal meetings for anyone who would like to join us for coffee and a chat, or just sit in the company of others who have experienced and understand the pain of loss.
In the Church of England’s online funeral guide there is a dedicated section about grief with a lot of practical advice and links to many organisations specialising in helping people through the grieving process.
Whatever your need is please be assured that we are always available to help you in whatever way we can.
